Safety, Installation and Warranty requirements
Please ensure that this manual is read and understood before commencing installation. Failure to comply with the issues listed below and details printed in this manual can cause product/property damage, severe personal injury, and/or loss of life. Ensure all requirements below are understood and fulfilled (including detailed information found in manual subsections).
Licensed professional heating contractor The installation, adjustment, service, and maintenance of this equipment must be performed by a licensed professional heating contractor.
Please see section entitled Important Regulatory and Installation Requirements.
Product documentation Read all applicable documentation before commencing installation. Store documentation near boiler in a readily accessible location for reference in the future by service personnel.

Warranty Information contained in this and related product documentation must be read and followed. Failure to do so renders warranty null and void.
Advice to owner Once the installation work is complete, the heating contractor must familiarize the system operator/ultimate owner with all equipment, as well as safety precautions/requirements, shut-down procedure, and the need for professional service annually before the heating season begins.

Introductory information
Initial start-up
The initial start-up and matching of the control unit to local conditions and the structural characteristics of the building must be carried out by your heating contractor.
Control unit factory default settings
The control unit is preset at the factory for standard operation: Between 06:00 and 22:00 h, space heating operates at normal room temperature. Between 22:00 and 06:00 h, space heating with reduced room temperature (set to 3 C / 37 F, freeze-up protection).
Weekday and time (CET) were set up in the factory. Daylight saving time is automatic.
You may change the factory default settings in accordance with personal requirements.
Please note: All data is saved in case of power failure.

Where to find the controls
Summary of controls and indicators
You can change all settings for your heating circuit centrally at the control unit.
You may also make some adjustments on the remote control unit, if your system is equipped with a Vitotrol 200 remote control (see separate operating instructions).

Start-up/shutdown
Control unit start-up
1. Turn power supply ON. Turn on breaker or main disconnect supplying 120 VAC to unit.
2. Push ON/OFF button to turn power ON. After a short time, the supply temperature is displayed. Your control unit and, if installed, your remote control unit are now ready to operate.
Control unit shutdown
If you intend shutting down your control unit for a while, e.g. during a summer holiday, set the heating circuits to standby (see page 6).
Please note: The heating circuit pump starts automatically every 24 hours for a short time to prevent pump damage.
If you do not want to use the heating circuit, you should shut down the control unit.
1. Push ON/OFF button to turn power OFF.
2. Isolate the system from the power supply. Turn off breaker or main disconnect supplying 120 VAC to unit. Please note that the system is no longer freeze-up protected.
Please note: All settings remain intact.

Setting heating circuit time program
Observe the following 3 points if you want to activate space heating.
1.Heating r must be selected for the heating circuit.
2.Normal room temperature (for day) ts and reduced room temperature (for night) tm can be selected for the heating circuit (see below).
3.When your heating circuit operates with normal or reduced room temperature depends on the programmed times (four possible time cycles) for the respective day.
If no time cycles are selected, space heating will be active for the whole day at reduced room temperature. If one or more time cycles are selected, space heating will be active for those times with normal room temperature. For changing programmed times, see below.
Setting a normal room temperature
Set the desired temperature for the normal room temperature with rotary selector ts.
Setting a reduced room temperature
Press the following keys:
1. tm for reduced room temperature; the currently set temperature will flash.
2. / for the desired value.
3. as confirmation; the temperature no longer flashes and is now saved.
Setting switching times (timer program)
4 time cycles: For space heating, up to four changes between normal and reduced room temperature can be programmed. At the factory, time cycle 1 from 06:00 to 22:00 h is set for every weekday i.e. during that time, all rooms are heated to the normal room temperature.
You can select identical time programs for all weekdays or individual programs for each weekday.
When setting time programs please note that your heating system requires some time to heat the rooms to the desired temperature.

Changing heating characteristics
You can alter the heating characteristics by changing the slope and level of the heating curve. For more information regarding the heating curve, see page 11. Please observe the modified heating characteristics over several days (if possible, await a major change in the weather), before making further adjustments. Make short-term adjustments of the room temperature using rotary selector ts or key tm (see page 7).

Changing heating characteristics (cont.)
Heating curves represent the relationship between the outside temperature and the flow temperature. To put it simply: the lower the outside temperature, the higher the supply temperature. The illustrated heating curves apply subject to the following settings:
Shift = 0 Different level settings shift the curve parallel in a vertical direction. Normal room temperature = approx. 20 C / 68 F.
In the factory, the following settings are made: slope = 1.4, shift = 0.
Generally, the heating curve lies in range A for underfloor heating systems in range B for low temperature heating systems in range C for heating systems with boiler water temperatures above 75 C / 167 F
Examples Well insulated home in sheltered position (with radiator heating system): Slope = 1.2 Home in exposed position or with an older heating system (with radiator heating system): Slope = 1.6

Scanning fault display
If your heating system has developed a fault, it will be displayed and indicated by flashing fault symbol U. You can read off the fault code on the display by scanning, then notify your local heating contractor accordingly. This allows the heating contractor to prepare better for the service call and may save additional travelling costs.

Cleaning
All devices may be cleaned with a commercially available domestic cleaning agent (non-scouring).
Inspection and maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures trouble-free, energy-efficient and environmentally responsible heating operation. We strongly advise you to arrange an inspection and maintenance contract with your local heating contractor.
Energy saving tips
Not only will you benefit from the advantages of a modern heating system, but you can also save energy by the way you operate your system. For this, the following measures will help you:
Correct ventilation Briefly open windows A fully, and at the same time close thermostatic radiator valvesB. Do not overheat, endeavour to achieve a room temperature of 20 C; every degree of room temperature reduction saves up to 6% of your heating bills. Close roller shutters (where installed) at dusk. Set thermostatic radiator valves B correctly. Do not cover radiators C or thermostatic radiator valves B. Make full use of the setting options offered by control unit D, e.g. normal room temperature alternating with reduced room temperature.
