Insert film into the chamber. Do not use force. The film should lie flat.
Close the back cover (you will hear a «Click»). Press the shutter button a number of times to advance the film until «1» appears in the frame counter.
If you attempt to operate the camera without a film, neither the shutter or flash will function. However, the motor will still appear to be working normally.
