LEGO has just announced its latest LEGO set in the form of one of the most iconic Autobot in the franchise. And though we need to wait until the end of this month to get our hands on it, builders can start building their own custom LEGO Transformers Optimus Prime even sooner with these neat building instructions from Build Better Bricks.
If you’ve been following our articles here in TBS, you’ll notice that a significant portion of our blogs is dedicated to the unique creations of the LEGO fan community. And as a fan of Generation 1 Transformers, I’m just excited to see this official LEGO version of Optimus, together with other brick-built renditions of some of the most memorable characters of the G1 era. Talk about having Soundwave and Devastator in all their LEGO glory and you’ll get the picture.
And this time around, Build Better Bricks is giving us a treat by letting us create our own custom LEGO Transformers Optimus Prime while we wait for the release of the official LEGO version on June 1.
With only a third of the parts needed to build the actual LEGO Optimus, B3’s custom brick rendition of Prime only requires less than 500 LEGO pieces to put together, making it a great way to jump back and reminisce about the G1 Transformers era without investing too much in new LEGO parts.
While B3’s version of the Optimus’ G1 version may not be at par with the actual 10302 set in terms of scale, this original creation from LEGO Masters Champion Tyler Clites still boasts some nifty features like 24 points of articulation, full transformation to his Semi Truck Mode, and his iconic ion blaster and Matrix of Leadership accessories. Do take note, however, that Build Better Bricks only offers the building instructions to create this custom version of Prime. You’ll have to provide the needed LEGO parts.
And if you want to give this a try, B3 is offering the building instructions to this for a minimal amount of $8. You’ll get high-quality instructions in PDF format, a parts list, and stud.io file that lets you easily import the model into Bricklink to get the parts you need if ever some of them are not available in your collection.

Introduction: Optimus Prime Lego Instructions
This is a robot and I like the way it looks.
Step 1:
Get these pieces.
Step 2:
Attach the red grabber pieces to the black cylinders. Then put the black cylinders onto blue 1-dot pieces. Put the blue 1-dot pieces onto into the 1-dot pieces with the side dot. Put the slanted blue pieces on top.
Step 3:
Put a red grabber piece onto the side dot of the 1-dot plus side dot piece. Put a hose end piece into the red grabber and then clip a clipper onto the hose piece.
Step 4:
Take a gray 2×2 piece and stack two red piece with a white circle in the middle.
Step 5:
Put the stack of the two red pieces with the white circle in the middle, on one corner.
Step 6:
Put the gray 2×2 with the red and white stack onto the pieces you made before by putting the other side of the clippers onto the gray 2×2.
Step 7:
Put 2 thin 1-dot pieces on the bottom of the gray 2×2.
Step 8:
Put a thin 1-dot piece that is as large as a 2-dot piece but only has 1 dot in the middle into the bottom thin 1-dot piece.
Step 9:
Put another thin 2×2 onto the piece that looks a thin 2-dot but only has one dot in the middle.
Step 10:
Take two 3-dot wing pieces and one corner piece with 2 dots on each side.
Step 11:
Put the wing pieces onto the corner piece.
Step 12:
Attach the corner piece with the two wing pieces onto the bottom of the thin gray 2×2.
Step 13:
Put two slanted vent pieces on the wing pieces.
Step 14:
Put a thin two dot piece on the back of the wing pieces.
Step 15:
Get two thick 2-dot hinge pieces.
Step 16:
Put the two thick 2-dot hinge pieces onto the thin 2-dot piece.
Step 17:
Put two corner pieces with two dots on each side onto the thick 2-dot hinge pieces.
Step 18:
Put two 1-dot slanted pieces onto the corner pieces with two dots on each side.
Step 19:
Put two wing pieces onto the slanted pieces.
Step 20:
Put two smaller 1-dot slanted pieces onto the wing pieces.
Step 21:
Put two glowing blue slant pieces onto the small 1-dot slant pieces.
Step 22:
Put two thin 2-dot pieces onto the back of the wing pieces.
Step 23:
It is finished! Here is Optimus Prime!

6. Соберите все детали вместе. После того как вы собрали все детали, соберите их вместе, чтобы получился трансформер Оптимус Прайм из LEGO.

But there was one cartoon that hit differently for our generation. It was the story of the heroic Autobots from the planet Cybertron who made it their mission to protect Earth.
Of course, we’re talking about none other than Transformers.
The Transformers robots stood for bravery, courage, teamwork and strength (with a little humor thrown in), so they were real role models to us kids.
Now, fans can FINALLY build the most iconic Transformers leader, modeled off the original G1 toy design, LEGO® Optimus Prime.
Joseph Kyde, the LEGO designer of this set, says, “Optimus Prime has all the qualities that you want in a in a leader. He is the wisest and he is the strongest.”
And we couldn’t think of anyone wiser than Joseph to work on the new set, considering he once worked at Hasbro (the company that made the original Transformers toy line)!
“Optimus Prime and I go way back. I used to work on Transformers toys. and I have always been a huge Transformers fan,” he adds.
A real Transformer robot
As you know, there’s. More Than Meets The Eye with Transformers. The characters can convert into vehicles, objects and even into flying machines. Literal shape-shifters!
Just like the original toy (and cartoon character), our LEGO Optimus Prime set can reconfigure into his recognizable red semi-truck alt-mode.
Unlike some of our other 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 sets, this is the first LEGO set where rebuilding isn’t required to turn it into something entirely new.
“My major inspiration was going back to the very original toy. I got this toy for Christmas when I was four years old, so I know it like the back of my hand,” Joseph adds.
He based the conversion on how the original toy worked, but his biggest challenge was figuring out how to use LEGO bricks to achieve the goal.
“Since the nature of bricks is more of an assemble and disassemble setup, it took a lot of time to get the conversion right.”
After a lot of hard work, he pulled it off.
Converting LEGO Optimus Prime into its truck form only takes 1-2 minutes by maneuvering different blocks and folding sections in and out. Pretty cool. The set comes with a step-by-step guide to show you how to do it.
Nostalgic details will take you back
To remind Transformers fans of their childhood, we wanted to include authentic features and Easter eggs in this set.
“My favorite detail is Optimus Prime’s opening chest, because inside you’ll find the removable Matrix of Leadership, which is what makes him the leader of the Autobots,” explains Joseph.
“It was very important to me that this was included because it’s one of the most defining things about Optimus Prime.”
Another thing that Joseph wanted to carry over from the original toy was the chrome details that gave the toy a special shine.
The set also comes with a blaster accessory that Optimus Prime uses in battle against the Decepticons.
An unlikely (but super cool) partnership
Of course, this LEGO set wouldn’t be possible without the special partnership between Hasbro and the LEGO Group.
“This idea came about because two toy companies were able to say, look, we have this amazing icon of pop culture and we’re going to work together to try and give Optimus Prime a new form that he hasn’t really had before.”
He adds, “It’s a testament to the importance of the Transformers brand. It’s such a strong icon that everyone on both sides wanted to make this happen for the fans. We’re all so excited about it.”
This LEGO Optimus Prime set is different to any other collectible out there, made entirely from bricks. So, whether you display LEGO Optimus Prime in his robot or semi-truck form, it’s easy to switch it up whenever you feel like it.
“This line of toys and cartoons from the 80s just kind of became this symbol to so many kids growing up, so I really hope fans can enjoy this new LEGO version of Optimus Prime,” Joseph adds.

be fair guys this was done by an 8 year old if your sons really serious about trying to make it exactly like optimums prime this is what you should do what you should do is get the mask/Helmut for reference or some other refrence that you can turn any wich way so you can see the details then have him figure out what colors he needs to build each area (build it in sections esp cause not many ppl have that large a suplly of blue black and silver leggos and this may take a while unless u scale it down) leggo does sell bulk blocks on the web site by color still not one to critisize in a contest leggo ran when i was a kid i made a space ship that looked like the patradge famly buss r rocket engines

Hi, this is Rosedale25’s mom — thank you for your helpful words. Now, I’ll educate myself — what is the «mask/Helmut» you refer to above? Can you link me to instructions? My son wanted to build a sphere, but found it difficult to curve the edges properly.
We have a *truckload* of Lego at home — our fav. Lego expert right now is Nathan Sawaya. We saw an online CNN report about him and his fabulous work.
He has build more indepth models, but I’m not sure his brain has learned to think in «sections»

В продаже вы и сейчас без труда сможете найти как уже собранных роботов, так и прекрасные наборы от лего, которые вы как конструктор будете собирать самостоятельно. Это даст вам возможность почувствовать себя настоящим инженером.
Но, конечно же особым шармом обладают самоделки, то есть модели сконструированные и построенные самостоятельно из стандартных деталей конструктора lego. В этой статье мы вам расскажем именно о таких работах.
Оптимус прайм
Если у вас есть желание построить лидера Автоботов в его земной маскировке, то вам пригодится вот это видео. Здесь наглядно показано как и с какими деталями вам придется работать. К сожалению, за простоту конструкции вам придется заплатить тем, что полученный грузовик не сможет трансформироваться.
Инструкция
Итак, вам понадобятся несколько разновидностей деталей:
- Белые, синие и красные стандартные кирпичики разных размеров;
- Колеса, выхлопные трубы и ветровое стекло из любого подходящего набора
- Несколько серых и желтых деталей для оптики и порогов;
- А так же фигурка человечка на роль водителя.

Если у вас есть наборы лего текхникс, то при определенной доле усердия можно построить самотрансформирующегося робота. для построения этой замечательной самоделки понадобится несколько наборов конструктора. А приводиться в движение конструкция будет за счет пневматики.
