Adults, the elderly and children aged 2 years and over.

Apply daily to the affected areas only.

Children:

Children under the age of 12 years should be treated under supervision.

Treatment of infants under the age of 2 years is not recommended.

Duofilm should be applied to the wart once daily preferably at bedtime.

Procedure for application:

1. The wart should be soaked in warm water for 5 minutes and dried thoroughly with a clean towel.

2. The surface of the wart should be rubbed with a nail file, pumice stone, emery board or coarse washcloth, with care taken not to cause bleeding.

3. A thin layer of Duofilm should be applied directly to the wart. Care should be taken to avoid the healthy surrounding skin.

4. The solution should be allowed to dry thoroughly. The wart should be covered with a plaster (dressing) if it is large or if it is on the foot to help penetration of ingredients.

It is recommended that treatment continues until whichever of the following occurs first:

— Warts have been treated for 12 weeks

— The wart is completely cleared and the normal ridgelines of the skin have been restored.

For warts, clinically visible improvement should occur in 1-2 weeks, but the maximum effect may be expected after 4-8 weeks.

If warts persist beyond 12 weeks of treatment, the patient should be advised to consult their pharmacist or doctor.

Consider alternative treatments if warts cover a large area of the body (more than 5 cm2) (see Warnings and Precautions).

Patients should be advised to consult a pharmacist or doctor if skin irritation develops.

Due to the flammable nature of Duofilm, patients should avoid smoking or being near an open flame during application and immediately after use.

Duofilm contains colophony which may cause allergic contact dermatitis.

Duofilm may cause eye irritation. Avoid contact with eyes and other mucous membranes. In case of accidental contact with the eyes or other mucous membranes, flush with water for 15 minutes.

Avoid exposure to healthy skin (see Adverse Reactions). Duofilm may cause skin irritation. If undue skin irritation develops treatment should be discontinued.

Consider alternative treatments if warts cover a large area of the body (more than 5 cm2) due to the potential risk of salicylate toxicity.

Duofilm is not recommended in patients with diabetes, circulatory problems or peripheral neuropathy except under the supervision of a doctor.

Oral salicylates taken during or immediately after a viral illness have been associated with Reye’s syndrome and hence there is a theoretical risk with topical salicylates.

Therefore, use is not advised in children or teenagers during or immediately after chickenpox, influenza, or other viral infections.

It has been reported that salicylates are excreted via breastmilk (see Pregnancy and Lactation).

Patients should be advised not to inhale the vapour.

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

ATC Code

Pharmacotherapeutic group: Wart and anti-corn preparations.

ATC code: D11AF

Lactic acid affects the keratinisation process, reducing the hyperkeratosis which is characteristic of warts. At high concentrations it can cause epidermolysis, leading to the destruction of the keratotic tissue of the wart and of the causative virus. It also has antiseptic properties.

Flexible collodion provides a viscous vehicle that allows accurate application of the active ingredients to the wart. It also forms a film that helps to hydrate and promote the destruction of wart tissue.

Salicylic acid is keratolytic, producing desquamation by solubilising the intercellular cement in the stratum corneum resulting in the shedding of skin scales.

Absorption

Salicylic acid is absorbed through the skin; where detectable, maximum plasma levels are found 6 to 12 hours after application. Systemic absorption of salicylic acid has been reported to range from 9% to 25% after topical application of other salicylic acid-containing preparations. The extent of absorption is variable depending on the duration of contact and the vehicle. Despite percutaneous absorption, the systemic exposure is low given the low dose topically administered to small, localised areas of hyperkeratotic tissue.

Human abdominal skin in a flow-through diffusion system was used to assess the in vitro percutaneous absorption of lactic acid. At a pH of 3, the amount of radioactivity detected in the receptor fluid, stratum corneum, epidermis, and dermis was 3.6, 6.3, 6.6, and 13.9%, respectively.

Distribution

Following percutaneous absorption, salicylic acid is distributed in the extracellular space; approximately half of which is protein bound to albumin.

Metabolism

Salicylates are metabolised in the liver by microsomal enzymes to salicyluric acid and phenolic glucuronides of salicylic acid. That which is not metabolised is excreted in the urine as unchanged salicylic acid.

Elimination

Within 24 hours of salicylic acid being absorbed and distributed in the intercellular space, approximately 95% of the absorbed dose can be recovered in the urine.

What is it and what is it used for?

Clabin plus is a medicine for the topical treatment of warts.

What do you need to consider before use?

Clabin plus must not be used

  • if you are hypersensitive to the medicinally active ingredients salicylic acid or lactic acid as well as salicylates or any of the other ingredients of Clabin plus,
  • in infants or
  • in patients with renal insufficiency
  • in breastfeeding mothers, if large areas of skin are to be treated regularly

Particular caution is required when using Clabin plus:

Clabin plus should not be used on the face or genital area. Do not bring into contact with eyes or mucous membranes.

In case of doubt, the doctor should be consulted.

Warts are communicable! To prevent the spread of infection, your own towel should never be passed on to others for shared use.

Do not go barefoot if you have warts in your feet.

When using Clabin plus with other drugs:

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using or have recently used any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Salicylic acid can increase the absorption of other topically applied drugs through the skin. The ingested salicylic acid delays the breakdown of methotrexate and intensifies the effect of sulphonylureas.

Pregnancy and breast feeding period:

During pregnancy, Clabin plus may only be used over a small area (area smaller than 5cm2).

Clabin plus must not be used on the breastfeeding breast. The accidental ingestion of Clabin plus by the infant through contact with the treated area must be avoided. If the doctor considers regular treatment of large areas of skin with Clabin plus to be necessary, breastfeeding must be stopped early, as risks due to insufficient detoxification in newborns cannot be ruled out.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicine.

How is it used?

Always use Clabin plus exactly as instructed in this package insert. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Clabin plus is intended for use on the skin.

Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is:

Apply Clabin plus to the wart (s) 2 to 4 times a day. Clabin plus solution should not get on the healthy skin around the wart. You can protect them with a fatty cream. Let the treated skin areas dry.

Before reapplication, the existing film should be peeled off or

Rubbing off can be removed. With regular use, the softened horny layer can be easily removed after a few days, if necessary after a hot soap bath.

This process is repeated until the wart is worn away or falls off.

The use of Clabin plus over a period of 4 to 6 weeks is usually sufficient. Do not use Clabin plus without medical advice.

The maximum daily dose for adults of 2g must not be used for more than 1 week. For children, the daily dose of 0.2 g must not be exceeded.

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Clabin plus is too strong or too weak.

If you have any further questions on the use of the medicinal product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

What are the possible side effects?

Like all medicines, Clabin plus can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The evaluation of side effects is based on the following frequency information:

Very often more than 1 patient in 10
Frequently: 1 to 10 patients in 100
Occasionally: This affects 1 to 10 users in 1,000
Rarely: This affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000
Very rare: less than 1 patient in 10,000
Not known: Frequency cannot be estimated from the available data

Clabin plus occasionally causes a slight and with more frequent application also a stronger burning sensation, especially on the skin surrounding the wart.

In addition, very rare cases have been described: hypersensitivity reactions on the skin (allergic contact dermatitis), dilation of small, superficial skin vessels (telangiectasia), brown spots, sensitivity to light with appearance of skin symptoms after exposure to the sun (photosensitization), skin inflammation (dermatitis), thinning of the upper layers of the skin , Pigmentation, depigmentation.

In the event of excessive irritation, treatment should be temporarily interrupted and restarted after the reaction has subsided. Consult a doctor in case of side effects more serious than irritation.

Reporting of side effects:

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects not listed in this leaflet.

You can also report side effects directly via the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (see below). By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of this drug.

Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices Dept. Pharmacovigilance

Kurt-Georg-Kiesinger-Allee 3 53175 Bonn, Germany

Website: http://www.bfarm.de

How should it be stored?

Store drug out of reach of children.

Do not use the medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the bottle and the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.

Do not store above 25 ° C.

Caution, easily inflammable! Keep away from open fire.

After using the Clabin plus, close it well and make sure that there is no more solution on the neck of the bottle. This will prevent Clabin plus from crystallizing and the opening from sticking.

Clabin plus

A normal intermediate in the fermentation (oxidation, metabolism) of sugar. The concentrated form is used internally to prevent gastrointestinal fermentation. (From Stedman, 26th ed) Sodium lactate is the sodium salt of lactic acid, and has a mild saline taste. It is produced by fermentation of a sugar source, such as corn or beets, and then, by neutralizing the resulting lactic acid to create a compound having the formula NaC3H5O3.

Lactic acid was one of active ingredients in Phexxi, a non-hormonal contraceptive agent that was approved by the FDA on May 2020.

Lactic acid produces a metabolic alkalinizing effect.

Uses

Lactic acid is an emollient and keratolytic used agent in various cosmetic products and used as an additive in various pharmaceutical products for its antibacterial properties.

For use as an alkalinizing agent.

Clabin plus is also used to associated treatment for these conditions:

Corns, Dehydration, Fluid Loss, Hyperkeratosis, Lichenification, Shock, Hypovolemic, Vasoplegic Shock, Warts, Mild Metabolic acidosis, Mild, moderate Metabolic Acidosis, Moderate Metabolic acidosis, Chemical contraception, Electrolyte replacement, Fluid replacement therapy, Parenteral Nutrition, Peritoneal dialysis therapy, Urine alkalinization therapy

How Clabin plus works

Lactate ions are metabolized ultimately to carbon dioxide and water, which requires the consumption of hydrogen cations.
